American Geriatrics Society

Purpose

The purpose of the University of Cincinnati student chapter of the American Society is to develop longitudinal educational and service learning programs that will influence physicians-in-training, no matter their choice of specialty, to acquire the attitudes, knowledge and skills to provide high quality comprehensive and compassionate health care to older patients. The University of Cincinnati student chapter subscribes to the goals of the American Geriatrics Society with particular emphasis by the University of Cincinnati chapter on the following.

  • Promotion of interest in gerontology and geriatric medicine among faculty and students.
  • Support for integration of gerontology and geriatric medicine curricular content throughout all four years of undergraduate medical education.
  • Creation of service learning projects with community based service agencies and long - term care facilities that will provide opportunities for students to develop positive attitudes towards older persons and increase their greater understanding of aging and the aged and, as a corollary, students to acquire the necessary skills to provide high quality health care to their patients.

The 2005 - 2006 Leadership Council is comprised of four students.

Activities

Currently activities are planned by the Leadership Council for four times during the academic year, either in the evening or, at lunch time. These activities are advertised via email to every student in all four years and by posting flyers in the mail box of each student.
