Provides information, referral, and support to those coping with
Alzheimer’s disease or related disorders. The Alzheimer’s
Association Greater Cincinnati Chapter also offers support and
education groups to family members, professionals and the community.

Catholic Social Services of Southwest Ohio
Services include counseling, support and resources for families,
children and individuals. Catholic Social Services of Southwest Ohio
also provides numerous programs on various topics. Six offices offer
caring staff and resource access to persons of all faiths.
The Caregiver Assistance Network sponsored by Catholic Social
Services of Southwest Ohio offers programs on all aspects of family
care giving for professionals, volunteers, and family. Educational
programs, support groups, phone helpline, quarterly newsletter and
consulting services are also among the many services provided by the
Catholic Social Services of Southwest Ohio.

Cincinnati Area Senior Services
A continuum of services is provided to meet the needs of older
adults including protective services, transportation and
home-delivered meals. Cincinnati Area Senior Services operates
Evanston, Over the Rhine and Mt. Auburn Senior Centers, Day
Community Care, a Guardianship Assistance Program, and Substance
Abuse Case Management. The Balancing Act is for employers who wish
to provide elder care resource and referral services to their
employees.

Council on Aging of Southwestern Ohio
Provides over 12, 500 older people with one or more of the 36
contract services offered by the Council on Aging of Southwestern
Ohio which include Butler, Clermont, Clinton, Hamilton and Warren
counties. All services are designed to create opportunities that
help older people maintain their dignity and support caregivers in
their efforts.

Elderly Services Program (ESP)
Services are available on a sliding fee scale for residents who
are 65 years of age and older and who reside in Butler, Clinton or
Hamilton county. Services for this tax supported program range from
home delivered meals and personal care to minor home modification.

Home Delivered Meals
The Council on Aging of Southwestern Ohio provides funding for
congregate and home delivered meals program in their five county
area. Dietetic assistance, nutritional and sanitation training are
also provided.

PASSPORT
The PASSPORT program provides an alternative to nursing home
placement, enabling an older person to remain at home while
receiving care and services. There services range from personal care
and homemaking assistance to home delivered meals, adult day care
and medical equipment. PASSPORT is a state – wide program for
Medicaid eligible individuals age 60 and over. The program is funded
and administered by the Ohio Departments of Aging and Human
Services. Locally, the Council on Aging of Southwest Ohio manages
PASSPORT in Butler, Clermont, Clinton, Hamilton and Warren counties.

Ohio Department on Aging
The Ohio Department on Aging (ODA) distributes federal and state
funds for health and human services to older adults through Ohio’s
12 Area Agencies on Aging. The department coordinates: PASSPORT,
long term care services; Residential State Supplement Housing (RRS);
Benefits Eligibility Screening (BESS), Ombudsman, Golden Discount,
Ohio Senior Health Insurance Program (OSHIP) and Ohio Heritage, a
quarterly magazine for seniors. The ODA also coordinates the Ohio
State Fair senior activities, Governor’s Conference on Aging, Ohio
Senior Citizen’s Day and the Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame.

American Geriatrics Society
The American Geriatrics Society (AGS) is the premier professional
organization of health care providers dedicated to improving the
health and well-being of all older adults. With an active membership
of over 6,000 health care professionals, the AGS has a long history
of effecting change in the provision of health care for older
adults. In the last decade, the Society has become a pivotal force
in shaping attitudes, policies and practices regarding health care
for older people.
Anyone with an interest in geriatric health care is welcome to
join the American Geriatrics Society. Current membership is

National Institute on Aging
The National Institute on Aging (NIA), one of the 25 institutes and
centers of the National Institutes of Health, leads a broad
scientific effort to understand the nature of aging and to extend
the healthy, active years of life. In 1974, Congress granted
authority to form the National Institute on Aging to provide
leadership in aging research, training, health information
dissemination, and other programs relevant to aging and older
people. Subsequent amendments to this legislation designated the NIA
as the primary federal agency on Alzheimer’s disease research.
