| Geriatric Medicine Faculty and Staff
The Office of Geriatric Medicine at the University of Cincinnati
Academic Health Center was established in 1978 by a mandate from the
State of Ohio legislature. This mandate was created in response to
the recognition that the aging of the population and the shift to an
older society has significant implications on how health care is
delivered to older persons. Thus, all seven medical schools in the
State of Ohio have educational methods designed to give students
opportunities to acquire the attitudes, knowledge and skills
necessary to provide competent and compassionate care to their older
patients, no matter their specialty choice. The University of
Cincinnati Office of Geriatric Medicine offers support to faculty in
their efforts to integrate gerontology and geriatric medicine
content into didactic sessions as well into clinical rotations.
Educational endeavors also include continuing medical education for
physicians practicing in the community. Research in areas of health
care delivery for older persons is another focus of the Office of
Geriatric Medicine.
