Family Medicine
Physician Home Visit Program
Faculty
from the Office of Geriatric Medicine and the Department of Family
Medicine provide home visits for homebound elderly patients, and
patients living at home under hospice care. Training in home visits
is now a part of rotations in geriatrics and family medicine for
medical students, residents, and geriatric medicine fellows. Half
day learning sessions are scheduled through the rotation
coordinators for UC family medicine and geriatrics rotation.
This web page includes background information for learners
preparing to accompany one of our faculty during a half day of home
visits to patients. Your home visit learning experience will be
enhanced by 1) reading the Brief Introduction to Home Visits
document, and 2) Viewing the Physician Home Visit slides. Note that
the attached Powerpoint file will run as a narrated slide
presentation. During your home visits with faculty, you will have
opportunities to discuss questions about the advantages and barriers
to including home visits in outpatient practice, and about specific
patient care situations that you encounter during the half day.
